Welcome
our bike road trip
Sponsored by "On Common Ground I&E Co."

Destination: Santiago de Compostela

Getting ready...

This journey will take a mother and a son a few weeks of fierce committment and grueling excercise through the beautiful countryside of Spain. We will start on the edge of the Pirinees in St Jean Pied du Port, France giving thanks to start the trip with blessings for us and all of our dear family and friends all over the world, then we will follow "El Camino Frances" until we complete our journey in Santiago de Compostela...

First of all we need to give thanks to "On Common Ground I&E Co." .for sponsoring this trip and giving us the opportunity to document and share this experience with everyone. Maybe someone will get inspired and can use the information on this site to make their trip better...
We are starting with a couple of touring bikes equiped with everything we need (we think...) for the road. As usual, like it hapens to many of us, we might be bringing a lot more that we need but we can't help it or at least I can't help it.... I am sure we will pay for it on one of those uphill roads when we wish I was 50 lbs. lighter or at least 25 years younger, In stuations like these I usually will tell myself that "the show must go on" or better yet nothing is over until the "Fat Lady sings"...but I will need stronger encouragment to go on...I can't think of anything right now but if you have a good one...please let me know!!!!
On the other hand I am traveling with a 28 year old great guy that is in the prime of his life with a lot of patience and love for his mother so I feel encouraged and blessed. Keep all your fingers, eyes, limbs crossed that we fininsh this "Camino" safe and with a much grateful and better look on life and a stronger spirit!!!

All the close has to be dry fit and light weight, that way you can wash and dry easily and pack right away.

This a great gadget to help with bacteria without chemicals in the water...just stick in container move a bit and voila!!! Perfect drinking water.

Gear has also to be light weight and easy to store. Sleeping bag 1.5 lbs, self inflating mat 1.5 lbs, gloves, head sock and pedal straps and off course our HORN!!! gift from my husband.

All the close has to be dry fit and light weight, that way you can wash and dry easily and pack right away.
Starting this trip had many parts to coordinate. the tickets, the connections, the lodging, the backpack and on and on...all items coming together and falling naturally into place....
The bikes...it has been a great relief to know that I can ride my way to Compostela, the metal additions to my body are a big deterrant in walking with the additional weight I have to carry...it is a great thing, Julio is very happy as well, I think he worries a lot about me so this makes it easier for both!
At last we are ready to begin...
St Jean Pied du Port
This journey is dedicated to all the loved ones that have parted, also, to all the ones that we have the joy to share our lives with. But in essence, this is FOR US. May the road be one of searching and discovering our strengths as we challenge and learn from our shortcomings...
